Madeline (Lee) Capaldi Giacoma, passed away on Friday, June 29, 2018 at Forwood Manor in Wilmington, Delaware. She was 94 years old.

Born in Wilmington to Antoinetta (DiPace) and Michaelangelo Capaldi, Lee graduated from P.S. duPont High School and worked as a bookkeeper for several small businesses in Wilmington. She also assisted her sister-in-law Rose Capaldi at Objects d’Art and Antiques in Independence Mall in Wilmington, which was designed and built by her brother, Emilio Capaldi.

In 1950 she married Nicholas F. Giacoma, who predeceased her as did her daughter, Deirdre G. Chimenti. She is survived by a son, Francis X. Giacoma (Beth) of Lewes, DE; a daughter, Anne G. Barretta (Frank) of Cresskill, N.J.; grandchildren Tina Hepperlen (Mark), Michael Giacoma (Gretchen), Nicole Stefanacci (Luke) and Justine Barretta; and great-grandchildren Mark and Connor Hepperlen and Ryan, Austen and Lilly Giacoma.

Lee was a dedicated bridge enthusiast and played every Tuesday evening in her bridge club for over 50 years. She was a passionate traveler, visiting many countries throughout Europe with her husband and also with her friends, as well as traveling extensively through the U.S., Canada and even to pre-Castro Cuba in the late 1940s.

Lee loved the opera and regularly attended performances at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City. She also enjoyed crocheting, needlepoint and gardening, as well as collecting antiques, including Chinese export porcelain.

She was a wonderful “Mimi” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 3, from 9-10 a.m., at St. Joseph on the Brandywine, 10 Old Church Rd., Greenville, where a Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 a.m. Burial will be at All Saints Cemetery.
