Marjorie Dryden Smith, age 88, died at home on July 3, 2018.
She was born in New Castle to William F. Dryden and Bessie F. Ferguson, she had one younger brother, William F. Dryden, Jr., who died in 2013.
Marge is survived by her husband of 69 years, Richard E. Smith; her sons, Richard E. Smith, Jr. (Andrea), and Wayne B. Smith (Donna) ; her granddaughters, Stephanie L. Smith (Phil), Annette M. Horack (Tim), and Kelly L. Bell (Jeff); and her great-grandchildren, Angeline, Lydia, Logan and Oliver. She is also survived by her long-time friend, Carmella H. Beattie. All reside in Delaware.
Marge graduated from Wilmington High School in 1948 and from Beacom College in 1950. She was a full-time homemaker, but also worked as a stenographer at the Dupont Experimental Station, as a secretary at Alexis I du Pont Middle School and for decades as a Sunday school teacher at Asbury United Methodist Church.
Marge loved reading, especially romance novels, shopping at craft fairs, watching musicals, concerts and art documentaries, collecting Royal Doulton figurines, and enjoying time with family and friends. Marge was always focused on whether her guests had enough to eat.
A viewing will be held on Monday, July 9, 2018 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE 19720 where a service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in the adjoining memorial park. In lieu of flowers, you are asked to make a donation to either Asbury United Methodist Church, 300 Basin Road, New Castle, DE 19720 or Faithful Friends Animal Society, 12 Germay Drive, Wilmington, DE 19804. .
