James T. Elliott, Jr., age 71, passed away on August 14, 2018 at Christiana Hospital.
He was born and raised in Wilmington and was the son of the late Lillie J. and James T. Elliott, Sr. He graduated from P.S. du Pont High School in 1964 and then from Widener University receiving a bachelor’s degree in science. Jim proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy, on the destroyers, USS Dewey and during the Vietnam War on the USS C. V. Ricketts. He worked in the machine maintenance department for the U.S. Postal Service in the main post office in Wilmington, then in New Castle. Jim then worked for the former MBNA in consumer deposits and retired as a branch manager in 1994 after 8 years.
He was a member of St. John’s Lodge #2 A.F. & A.M. in New Castle where he served as Worshipful Master in 1988. Jim was an active 33° member of Scottish Rite Valley of Wilmington. He was a member of the Supreme Council and Past Deputy for Delaware. Jim belonged to Delta Chapter #6 R.A.M., Gunning Bedford Council #1, St. John’s Commandery #1 K.T., First State York Rite College #45 receiving the Order of the Purple Cross in 2008, Jesse Green Priory K.Y.C.H. #70, Delaware College S.C.R.I.F., Delaware Council of Knight Mason #18, Keystone Council #113 Allied Masonic Degrees, Two-by-Two Lodge #15 Royal Ark Mariners, Delaware Conclave Red Cross of Constantine, and Wilmington Masonic Hall Company.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Carolyn (Money) Elliott, his brother-in-law Carlton C. Money and his wife, Shirley and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Jim was preceded in death by his brother, John R. Elliott.
