Robert Lewis Bouwkamp, 83, of Newark, Delaware, passed away on August 15th surrounded by his family. He was a man of quiet dignity; a gentleman with an uncompromising sense of honesty and personal responsibility.

Bob was born in Coopersville Michigan on March 19, 1935 where he attended Coopersville High School and graduated with honors. Bob joined the Air Force in September 1956 and took Civilian Education courses graduating with his Associates degree. Bob met his wife Loretta May Webb after being stationed at New Castle Delaware for one and half years. He married Loretta on February 22, 1958; they were married for over sixty years.

Bob worked as a Chemist Assistant at Hercules before he started his Real Estate career. He started with Harris Hamby as an Agent and eventually started his own Real Estate business, Bouwkamp/Wolfe which later became R. L. Bouwkamp Associates. He retired in March 2015 from Patterson Schwartz Associates after over 48 years during which time he received many prestigious awards including the Salesman of the Month, Million Dollar Club and Centurion Award.

Above all Robert loved the Lord and his family, his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was a man of very strong and devout faith and was actively involved in the church where early on he was a Royal Ambassador Leader, Head of the Brotherhood, a Deacon, head of the Pulpit Committee, a Sunday school teacher and part of the choir at Bethany Baptist Church and eventually head Usher while attending GRPC Church.

Robert enjoyed spending time with his family in the outdoors where he took them on many vacations to the Smokey Mountains, Blue Ridge Mountains, Skyline Drive, Bar Harbor Maine, Canada, Nova Scotia, Michigan, Florida and other locations. They also vacationed as a couple in Europe. He also loved to spend time with his family and friends at his 2nd home in Lewes, Delaware.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, William and Bernice Bouwkamp; his son Robert Jr. as well as his brothers and sisters, Jim, Hazel, Virginia, Willis, Floyd and Larry. He is survived by his wife Loretta; his children, Michelle Gehrmann and John Bouwkamp (Gail); his daughter-in-law, Rose; his 3 grandchildren, Alexis, Ryan (Melanie), Amanda (Aaron); his 4 great grandchildren, Haley, Laurel, Miles and Kai; his brother, Jerry, and sister, Janice.

The Celebration of Life will be held at 7:00 pm on August 29th at Reach Church, 2880 Summit Bridge Road, Bear, Delaware, 19701. Visitation will begin at 5:30 pm. Steve Coward, Assistant Pastor of Reach Church and DaQuan Gibson, Senior Pastor of Redemption Church will be giving the message during the service.
