Barbara A. Norman, age 92, went to be with The Lord on Tuesday, August 28, 2018.
She was born in Wilmington and is the daughter of the late Mildred W. and Nolan F. Boyer. Barbara graduated from Conrad HS in 1944 and organized the high school reunions for many years. She then graduated from the University of Delaware with a double major in Music Education and English Education in 1948, and was one of the founders of the U of D Chapter of Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship. Throughout her life, along with being a homemaker, she taught Music and English for 15 years at the Minquadale School, Chester Christian School, Concord HS and other schools. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, where she was baptized, married and directed the Children’s Choir; later she was a member at Bethel Baptist Church and most recently Faith Baptist Church.
Barbara is survived by her husband of 65 years, J. Eric Norman, Sr.; 2 sons, James E. Jr.,(Joan) of Salisbury, MD and John of Wilmington; 3 grandchildren, Matthew (Tara), Zachary (Emily) and Kathryn Mayers (Nathan) and 4 great-grandchildren. She is also preceded in death by her sister, Nancy Corrigan.
A viewing will be held on Monday, September 10, from 11 to 12 noon, at Faith Baptist Church, 4210 Limestone Rd, Wilmington, DE 19808, where a funeral service will follow at Noon. Burial will be at Silverbrook Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Faith Baptist Church, Lori’s Hands; (An organization that transforms students’ understanding of community health by matching them with individuals living with chronic illness in meaningful, helping relationships) or to City Fare, (A program of Saint Anthony’s Community Center since 1986, that provide hot, nourishing meals to homebound elderly and disabled persons in New Castle County who are unable to prepare meals for themselves and who have no one to do so for them.)
