Wilmington-Catherine L. Phillips, age 75 passed away in her home on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 surrounded by her loving family.
She was a devoted mother, wife and patriot who volunteered at the Veterans of Foreign Wars from 1972 until her passing, including bartending at Post #475, then the bar manager at Post # 2863 from 2009 until her illness. Delaware had a banner year under her leadership as the VFW Auxiliary State President, 1992-1993. Delaware was ranked #1 in the nation for membership and programs that year. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family, cooking, decorating and serving others. Friends and family knew Catherine as the one who would always greet people in need, with open arms and an open heart. She was never too busy to lend a sympathetic ear and was always willing to give herself unselfishly. That generosity extended to her beloved and spoiled pets. Catherine also worked at Paul R. Phillips Glass Comp for over 20 years.
Catherine was born to the late Richard J. and Emma L. Jackson. She was survived by her husband of 33 years, Paul R. Phillips., Jr.; 6 children, Richard, Sr., Robert, Sr. (Emily), Catherine, Ronald (Dawn), Paul Kevin and Michelle (Scott); 11 grandchildren, Richard, Jr., Krystina, Robert, Jr., Savannah, Chance, Drake, Kerstyn, Ryan, Rilee, Julia and Ryan and 2 great grandchildren, Emilee and Maizy. She is also preceded in death by her brother, James Jackson.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday, October 16, from 6-8pm, at the McCrery & Harra Funeral Homes, 3710 Kirkwood Hwy, Wilmington. Services and burial will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Catherine’s name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
