James A (Jim) Gleeson passed away on November 9 in Wilmington, Delaware at the age of 88.

Jim was born to Patrick and Agnes Gleeson and grew up Chicago. He received three degrees, including a PhD in Organic Chemistry, from the University of Chicago. During that time, he married his loving wife of 64 years, Dora, and also served in the Army for 2 years. He worked his entire career as a chemist with duPont, discovering ways to dye carpets and manufacturing and marketing textile fibers. With Dora, he raised 6 children, who recall his patient help with and motivation for schoolwork and fondly remember family and neighborhood games and vacations. For 20 years he volunteered at church and evaluated every funding proposal to the DARC Foundation. He enjoyed the company of family, relatives, and neighbors and playing bridge and gardening.

He was preceded in death by his son Gregory and his love lives on in his wife, Dora, his brother, Bill, his children Jim, Kathy, Robert, Brian, and Dan, and seven grandchildren and other relatives.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday November 13, 2018 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike (Rt. 202 South of Silverside Road), Wilmington, DE 19803. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, Concord Pike & Sharpley Road. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery.
