MARILYN SAMLUK

Marilyn (Mert/Meem/Memom) Samluk, 86, of Middletown, DE, formerly of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2018. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Rose Bogia and Marc Powell, her brothers, Donald Powell and Robert Powell, and most recently by her beloved husband of 63 years, Stanley. Mert worked at Hercules for nearly 30 years before retiring in the early 1990's. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, friend, coach, and mentor to many.
In her early years, Mert was a Girl Scout leader and enjoyed camping on the beach with family and friends at Chincoteague Island. Over the past 30 years, she especially loved spending time at her beach house in Pot Nets. She enjoyed fishing, crabbing and riding around on golf carts with her grandchildren and the love of her life, Beep. When not at the beach, Mert could be found at any one of the bowling centers in Delaware. While bowling in numerous recreational leagues with her family, Mert is probably most recognized for her many accomplishments in the Women's International Bowling Association. She was a member of the WIBC National Bowling team for 30+ years competing across the United States. In addition, she and Stan bowled in the Senior Olympics where they both earned many medals including the Gold. Her countless awards, trophies, and induction into the Delaware State Women's Bowling Hall of Fame are just a few of her great achievements, but non compare to the special friendships she formed with so many wonderful people (you know who you are). For many years she coached children of all ages, including her own grandchildren in Jr Bowling Programs. Prior to retiring from bowling due to health reasons, she truly enjoyed coaching in the Special Olympics Bowling Tournaments.
Meem will be remembered for her spunky personality, can-do attitude and many handmade keepsakes that her family and close friends will cherish for years to come. Meem will be incredibly missed by all who knew her.
Meem is survived by her son Stephen Samluk Sr (Rose), daughter Judi Poore (Pat), brother in law, David Samluk (Sue Anne), 10 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at McCrery & Harra Funeral Home (3710 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19808) on Friday, November 30, 2018 at 11:00am with a visitation beginning at 10:00am. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mert's honor may be sent to Special Olympics of Delaware by visiting their website at www.sode.org .
