Leona W. Brownell passed away on December 16, 2018.

She was born in Waterloo, Iowa to the late Leonard and Anna Weiss. Leona was a graduate of Iowa State Teachers College. She earned her master’s degree in Zoology and Physiology at the University of Wisconsin. Leona completed her Ph.D. in Biological Sciences at the University of Delaware. After earning her Ph.D., she taught biology at American University, West Chester University and Glassboro College. After leaving teaching in 1972, Leona went on to earn her M. Div. from the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Philadelphia and was ordained to the Priesthood in 1979..

She was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years Robert Brownell, her younger son David Brownell and her daughter-in-law Lou Ann Brownell. Leona is survived by her son Warren Brownell, her grandchildren, Laura Norris, John Norris and Michael Brownell, her niece, Pamela Trudo, her nephew Leonard Trudo, and her great nieces and nephews, Haven, Reno, Miles and Anna.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at St. James Episcopal Church, 2106 St. James Church Road, Wilmington, DE 19808. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery. To send condolences visit: www.mccreryandharra.com.
