Jeannette Alberta Walter, 88, of Wilmington, DE passed away after a brief illness on December 29, 2018. Jeannette was born to Clarence and Bernice Vause of Inverness, FL. She graduated from Citrus High School and proudly pursued her dream of becoming a registered nurse by graduating from St. Luke’s Nursing School in Jacksonville, Florida. It was in Jacksonville that she met the love of her life, Ronald A. Walter. Soon after marriage they relocated to Westmont, New Jersey and eventually settled in Wilmington, DE where she raised her family and continued her nursing career at the Memorial Hospital. After retirement she became a “snow bird” living between Wilmington, the Lewes beach area, and Inverness. She took great delight in handcrafting sweaters and quilts for her grandchildren and spoiled each in many ways. She was a devoted wife, mother and “Mom Mom”. Her laughter, generous heart and loving personality will be forever missed by her family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband Ronald Walter. She is survived by her three children, Debbie Nicholson (Mike) of Ft. Mill, SC; Jeffrey A. Walter (Donna) of Newark, DE; Susan Veasey (Michael) of Wilmington, DE; four grandchildren, Amanda Santalucia (Nathan); Sarabeth Newkirk (Ryan); Abby Walter and Jenni Veasey; and one great grandchild, Noah Newkirk. She is also survived by her sister, Annie May Hensley and several beloved nieces and nephews.
Services will be held for family and friends on Wednesday, January 9th at 11:30 am. Friends are welcome at 10:30 am at McCrery and Harra Funeral Home, 3710 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE. Interment will follow at Delaware Veterans Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Christ United Methodist Church, 6 N.
