William E. Bartlett, age 85, of Wilmington, DE, formerly of Smyrna, died Thursday, January 10, 2019 in Hickory, NC surrounded by his family.
Bill graduated from Smyrna High in 1951 and Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science in 1955 with a pharmacy degree.

Bill worked as a pharmacist at the Memorial Hospital where he met his wife Mary Jane who was a nursing student. He owned Edgemoor Pharmacy and was the Peer Support Services Coordinator for the Delaware Association for the Blind, now Blindsight Delaware. Bill was a Boy Scout troop leader, having earned his Eagle Scout as a young man. He was also a board member for the Delaware Association for the Blind.

Bill had many interests including following local sports such as his former high school, Smyrna High, as well as the Eagles, Phillies, Flyers, and Sixers, and he enjoyed NASCAR. In addition to sports, Bill was a voracious reader of talking books. He will be mostly fondly remembered as a man of great warmth with a caring and generous heart.

Bill was predeceased by his wife Mary Jane Lilley in 2011. He is survived by his children Laurie Abel, Leonice Bartlett both of Wilmington, and Leonard Bartlett and his wife Ericka Reyna Bartlett of Hickory, NC; and grandchildren Brion Harpring and his wife Andi of St. Louis, MO and Jack Bartlett and his sister Veronica Bartlett of Hickory.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 19 at 10 am at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 1530 Foulk Rd., Wilmington, DE 19803 with a viewing at 9 am in the church lounge. Reception will follow the service at church. Interment will take place in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to Blindsight Delaware, 2915 Newport Gap Pike, Wilmington, DE 19808 or the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd.
