Eugenio "Gene" Navaleza died peacefully at the age of 79 at Christiana Hospital in Newark, Delaware on February 11, 2019. He was surrounded by his loving family.

Gene is survived by his wife of 48 years, Eva, of Wilmington, Delaware. He is also survived by his three daughters, Laura Fitzgerald (Joe), Cindi Lohmeier (Michael), and Gina Brodie (Darren). He had seven grandchildren: Hannah, Evan, Haley, Erin, Ryan, Brendan, and Sloane, who were his pride and joy. His grandchildren adoringly referred to him as their “Wowo,” his most important role in life. Gene is preceded in death by his father, Remigio Navaleza, his mother, Maria Nuevo, and his brother, Juan Navaleza.

He was born in 1939 in the Philippines. He later joined the United States Navy in 1966. He married his wife, Eva, whom he lovingly called “Doll.”

All are welcome to attend and celebrate Eugenio's beautiful, faith-filled life. Family and friends are invited to a visitation at St. Mary Magdalen, 7 Sharpley Road, Wilmington, DE 19803 on Thursday, February 14 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. A funeral mass is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Friday February 15th at St. Mary Magdalen with a visitation one hour prior. Interment will take place at St. Joseph on the Brandywine. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to St. Mary Magdalen Parish where Gene and his family were active members of the church community.

The family would also like to thank the following organizations for the love and care they provided Gene: the CVCCC Unit at Christiana Hospital, Select Specialty Hospital, St. Francis Hospital, Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Middletown, and the Surgical Trauma ICU at Christiana Hospital.
