“Punkin” age 80, of Newark, DE, passed away on Thursday, April 18, 2019.

He was predeceased by his father and mother, James and Eileen (Holmes); brothers, Ronald (Doc), and Randall (PeeWee). He is survived by His wife, Jacalyn Dougherty (White); sons, James Kevin, Kelly; grandson, Brandon Dougherty; brother, Richard Dougherty of New Castle; brother-in-law, William Campbell and sister-in-law, Virginia Dougherty; best friends, Bill and Phyllis Muzzi and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was able to fulfill his dream of being an entrepreneur operating a successful lunch truck business. He then opened a restaurant, which was truly his dream, and he loved every minute of running his businesses.

Roger loved to travel, whether by boat or car. He took many trips across the country, cruises with family and friends, and multiple trips to Florida with his sons and grandson. Fourth of July week in Bethany was his favorite. He loved having friends visit and taking them out to eat, as well as enjoying his favorite beach pastime, reading. He looked forward to cooking for the holidays, especially his legendary Christmas breakfast.

We want to give a special thanks to Dr. Luis Garcia for the care and concern he provided Roger. Thank you also to the nurses on the 8th S. 16 floor of the Wilmington Hospital, and especially Shay on the 6th floor 11S. Dr. Pinto was exceptional with the attention she gave to Roger and our family. A thank you to Heartland Hospice for giving support to us when we needed them.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 AM until 11 AM on Saturday April 27, 2019 at the McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3710 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE, where a memorial service will begin at 11AM.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Roger’s memory to the American Diabetes Association, PO Box 15829, Arlington, VA 22215.
