Michael F. Merrill, Jr., age 39, of Wilmington, DE died January 21, 2021 at his home in Liftwood Estates.
Michael graduated from Concord High in 2000. During his school years he was involved with the Boy Scouts, earning his Eagle Scout rank, and went from T-Ball to Seniors playing baseballs for Naamans Little League. Michael was a hard worker, owning his own contracting business specializing in kitchens, baths, and flooring. He was also a newspaper carrier from 1991-1998, worked at Naamans Pizzeria, Elegant Kitchen & Bath, and most recently was the night supervisor at WaWa. Michael also enjoyed playing basketball and soccer in high school, he played on several softball teams and bowling leagues, and was a huge Philly sports team fanatic and WWE enthusiast.
Michael was predeceased by his parents Judy and Michael F. Merrill, Sr.; sister Michelle Stafford and beloved uncle Jan Horn.
He is survived by his sisters Christine Merrill of Wilmington, DE and Melinda “Mindy” Arce-Batiz of Bradenton, FL; aunts and uncles Calvin and Margaret Horn of Sussex County, Donna Merrill and Eric Tedder of Hockessin, DE, Gino and Nancy Rizzi of Elsmere, DE, Janice and Al Pawlowski of Kansas, Karen and George Dolan of Florida, Joanne and Gene Schneider of Middletown, DE; as well as numerous cousin and friends that were also family.
Friends are invited to a viewing on Tuesday, February 9 from 1:30-2:30 at the McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803. Please wear your favorite Philly sports team gear in honor of Michael. A memorial service will be held at 12 noon on Thursday, February 11. In person attendance is by invite only, but the service will be broadcast for anyone that wishes to tune in at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83133612731?pwd=czNWSkZNRE5TNWhYME1sM2x1OENjZz09. Afterwards, the family will greet people, in person, from 1-2 pm at the funeral home. Masks are required and admittance to the building may be restricted to conform to current COVID regulations. Michael’s cremains will be spread at a private family gathering in Ocean City, MD.
