Newark - Sue Ann Reed, age 67, died peacefully in her home surrounded by family on March 14, 2021.
She was born in Wilmington to the late E. Rose (Tarburton) and George F. Reed. A Newark High School and Goldey-Beacom College graduate, she had a long tenured career as a purchasing manager at FMC Corporation, SPI Polyols and most recently, Lincoln University.
She is survived by her long-time companion Peter Kress, Elkton, MD, her sister Mazie Reed Mattson (William), Clifton VA, and her three nephews, Patrick Mattson (Carolyn), Bronxville, NY, Philip Mattson, Arlington, VA and Matthew Mattson (Jennifer), Fairfax, VA, and a host of beloved cousins.
She will be dearly missed by all including her great-niece and great-nephews, Rylie and Hayden Mattson, Virginia and William and Winston Mattson, New York. Sue cherished time spent with family during summers, weekends, birthdays and holidays where her fun-loving nature shined bright. She used her creativeness to decorate her house and office for the holidays, and had a true passion for bringing the seasons to life for those around her. Her generosity showed throughout the year, but especially on birthdays and holidays where she would honor family members with specialized cakes and heartfelt gifts.
Her love of the outdoors and travel led to a lifetime of memorable trips. Sue was particularly fond of summers spent with family and friends at the Delaware beaches. She loved to recount her travel experiences and always looked forward to the next adventure.
Sue will be remembered as a loving sister, a doting aunt, a dedicated companion and a caring friend.
Family and friends may visit on Thursday, March 18th from 10:00am to noon, prior to services at 12 noon, at the McCrery & Harra Funeral Homes, 3710 Kirkwood Hwy, Wilmington. Burial will follow at Gracelawn Memorial Park. Services will be held in accordance with the current health directives, wearing masks, social distancing and capacity requirements.
