Smyrna- Sharon L. “Sherry” Hitchens, age 75, passed away on August 26, 2021 surrounded by her loved ones.
She was born in Brunswick, ME and was the daughter of the late Elizabeth and William L. Godwin, Sr. She graduated from Newark HS in 1963.Sherry worked at the University of Delaware for over 30 years and retired as a secretary in 2012.
She was an avid crafter including cross stitch and knitting and even took weaving classes. Sherry also enjoyed making jewelry and greeting cards. The family all agreed that she was a great cook.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Allen, M. Jr.; 2 children, Christine Dolor (Jon), Allen M., III (Charlotte); 2 grandchildren, Hannah and Jason Dolor; “the 3 girls”, the dogs that she adored, Maggie May, Cassie and Trixie. Sherry is also preceded in death by her 2 brothers, William L. Godwin and Wayne L Godwin.
A viewing will be held on September 1 from 10-11 am, at McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3710 Kirkwood Hwy, Wilmington where a funeral service will follow at 11am. Burial will be at All Saints Cemetery.
