Anne M. “Nancy” McGovern, age 90, of 617 Halstead Road, Sharpley, died peacefully at her home of more than 60 years on Thursday, July 21. Nancy was a Chestnut Hill College alumnus, and a member of St. Mary Magdalen Church and Sodality. She was a lifelong gardener, pet lover, and an avid pro football fan, partial to the Green Bay Packers. In the past, Nancy enjoyed Bridge Club, volunteering at St. Francis Hospital and morning coffee at McDonalds with friends after daily mass.
Nancy was predeceased by her husband of 43 years, William “Bill” McGovern. She is survived by her six children, Anne M. Heafner (John), Louise C. Stump (David), William M. McGovern, Jr. (Alexandra), Christine L. McGovern, Suzanne S. McGovern and Matthew M. McGovern, as well as four beloved grandchildren.
A viewing will be held on Sunday, July 31, from 5-7 pm at the McCrery & Harra Funeral Home (3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803). A funeral will be held Monday, August 1, at 11am at St. Mary Magdalen Church (7 Sharpley Road, Wilmington, DE 19803) with burial immediately following at St. Joseph’s on the Brandywine (10 Old Church Road, Wilmington, DE 19807). In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Nancy’s favorite charities–St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and the Wounded Warrior Project.
