Betty Kylen Anderson, age 93, formerly of Wilmington, DE passed away peacefully with loved ones by her side on January 11, 2023 at Maris Grove, Glen Mills, PA.
She was born and raised in Wilmington, and was the daughter of the late Martha (Davis) and Walter A. Kylen. Betty graduated from P.S. Dupont High School in 1947 and earned a secretarial degree from Goldey College.
The most important part of her life was her faith and her family. Betty loved to show photos of her children and grandchildren to all who visited. She raised her family in Fairfax in Brandywine Hundred. Betty was an active member of Bethel Baptist Church, Christian Women’s Club and the Gideons Auxiliary. Betty was also a very proud member of the Delaware Colonial Swedish Society. In 2006, Betty moved to Maris Grove and is considered a “Pioneer” in the Community. She was active in many clubs and activities. It became a favorite destination for family visits where Betty’s grandchildren could play and enjoy the pool together. Many birthdays and holidays were celebrated at her Maris Grove home. Betty was also a life-long Phillies Fan!
Another important aspect of Betty’s life was her dedication to the Riverview Cemetery in Wilmington. She was a founding member of Friends of Historic Riverview Cemetery in 2009.
Her husband of 46 years, Thomas G. Anderson died in 1998. Betty is survived by 4 her children, Thomas W. Anderson (Betty Ableman), Lee Anderson (Barbara Pope), Karen A, Sharpe (Steve) and Virginia “Ginny” A. Knox (Bob), 4 grandchildren, Kylen Sharpe, Scooter Sharpe, Madison Knox (Arif Peracha) and Evelyn Knox and her sister, Joan Anderson.
A visitation with the family will be held on Friday, January 20th, at the Chapel at Maris Grove, 200 Maris Grove Way, Glen Mills, PA 19342, from 9:30-10 am, where a funeral service will follow at 10 am. Burial will then be held at Riverview Cemetery, Wilmington, DE.
