George Fredric Stunkard, formerly of Wilmington and late of Garnet Valley, Pa. passed away into the grace of God on February 10, 2023, surrounded by his loving family while in hospice at Christiana Medical Center.
A loving husband of 61 years and father of five, Fritz, as he was known, was born on October 15, 1937, in Anderson, Indiana and graduated from Valparaiso University. His career in transportation management embraced over 40 years of service prior to his retirement from Zeneca AG in 1998. He was employed by major industrial firms in both the Chicago area and Wilmington, overseeing national truck and rail movements. Fritz was actively involved in men’s ministry groups at St. Mark’s Lutheran and Concordia Lutheran churches, served regionally as an AAL chapter president, participated in a prosthetics support group, and enjoyed fellowship in the Train Collectors Association for over 30 years. His accolades included winning contest awards for scale railroad replicas.
He is survived by his wife Miriam Carol (nee Strieter), and children Geoffrey (Linda), Rebecca Shindel (Robert), Eric, Melinda Kempista (Joseph) and Christopher (Jamie), 11 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Friends may call on Saturday, March 4, 2023 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 501 Duncan Road, Wilmington, DE 19809 where a memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial was held privately.
