Janice Oliver Alexander, age 84 of Wilmington, Delaware passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 1, 2023 at Wilmington Hospital. She was born November 2, 1938 in Wilmington, Delaware.
She was predeceased by her husband, John (Jack) Alexander, and her parents William and Katherine Oliver. She is survived by her son Brad Alexander and his wife Nicol Alexander and their son Ethan Alexander, her sister Carol Nickles and many nieces and nephews and cousins.
Janice was a lifelong Delaware resident, she was raised in Wilmington. She attended Lore Elementary School, Bayard Junior High and graduated from Wilmington High School in 1956. She attended Goldey Beacom College and earned an associate degree. She started working for Hercules Research Center where she met her husband, Jack. They were married in 1963, they bought a house in Manette Heights.
Janice was an active member of St Mark’s Methodist church where she sang in the choir and minstrel, was a member of the Crafty Belles, part of the Women’s Bible Study group and helped with the Food Closet.
Growing up Janice was always active in sports and enjoyed horseback riding, reading, singing, playing the piano. Late on in life she used to teach piano lessons to children from her home. She was an avid reader and enjoyed walking around her neighborhood visiting with her neighbors. She and her husband, Jack love the outdoors and purchased land in Altoona, PA and had a hunting cabin built where they enjoyed hunting, fishing and hiking. Janice also enjoyed spending time with her grandson, Ethan. They enjoyed reading to each other and just spending time together.
A viewing will be held on Monday, June 12 from 10 - 11 am at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 1700 Limestone Rd., Wilmington, DE 19804 with a funeral service at 11. Interment will follow the service at Silverbrook Cemetery. A luncheon for family and friends will be held at St. Mark’s immediately following the interment.
