Byrle Bernice Sammons (nee Edwards), age 96 of Wilmington, DE. passed peacefully on July 3rd, 2023. She was born in East Alton, IL on July 1st, 1927 daughter of the late Jeff Jackson and Loueva Bryan Edwards.
Bernice is survived by her two children and their spouses, Marsha D. Aiello (Emilio), Jeffery L. Sammons (Karen); her grandchildren, Kevin and Matthew Aiello, Erin and Daniel Taylor, Sarah and Luke Poggi and Jeffery and Megan Sammons; her great grandchildren, Makayla Aiello, Emma and Abby Taylor, Cecelia and Beau Poggi and Adrian Sammons. In addition to her children, she is survived by her sister, Lois Frazier (Buss, deceased) of East Alton, IL. and several nieces, nephews, cousins and members of her extended family.
Bernice graduated from Wood River High School, IL in 1954 and then worked for Illinois Bell Telephone Company in Alton, IL. for nine years before moving to Delaware. Once in Delaware, Bernice worked for the DuPont Company for over 30 years and retired in 1985.
Throughout Bernice’s life, she was always loving and caring, showing respect as well as empathy toward everyone she encountered. Outside of work, Bernice loved to stay active with travel, bowling and walking well up into her late 80”s.
The family would like to thank the caregivers at Milton and Hattie Kutz Home, and Compassionate Care Hospice for all their efforts & care they provided over the years.
