Renee Marjorie Jones Tilley, age 98, a resident of the Kutz Home in Wilmington, died on Friday, September 22, 2023 at the Wilmington Hospital.
Renee graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in Schenectady, NY, class of 1943, and went on to attend Barnard College in New York City on a full scholarship. She graduated with honors in 1947 with a BA in sociology. Renee worked as an administrative assistant at Travelers Insurance Company as well as Long Island Ag & Tech, and was a full-time homemaker. When the family moved to Wilmington, Renee volunteered her time at the A.I. du Pont Children’s Hospital, Delaware Arthritis Foundation, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed competing in Wilmington bowling leagues and being active with St. David’s Episcopal Church’s altar guild. In her spare time, Renee played piano and traveled with her family.
Renee was predeceased by her husband Merritt E. Tilley, Jr. on March 15, 2018. She is survived by her sons Merritt E. Tilley III of Wilmington, DE and Scott W. Tilley of Los Altos, CA; and three grandchildren Tracy Tilley Dolfie of Sacramento, CA, Kimberlyn Tilley of Denver, CO and Jackson Tilley of Los Altos, CA.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 3 at 11 am at St. David’s Episcopal, 2320 Grubb Rd., Wilmington, DE 19810. Interment will take place at a later date at Central Park Cemetery in Schenectady, NY.
In lieu of flowers the family suggestions donations be made in Renee’s name to St. David’s Church.
