Margaret Ann “Maggie” Houser, age 94, of Claymont, DE passed away peacefully and surrounded by loved ones at her home on Wednesday, April 10, 2024.
She was born and raised in Wilmington, DE and was the daughter of the late Margaret (Connell) and Pierce Bryson. Maggie graduated from Ursuline Academy in 1947 and from the Goldey-Beacom College in 1950 where she studied secretarial skills.
She started her working career at the Dupont Company for ten years. Maggie and her husband Dutch then stated and a family in the 1960’s. Once the youngest of their four boys were old enough, she returned to the work force working for the Brandywine School District for 15 years retiring in the early 2000’s.
Maggie enjoyed cooking, baking, arts & crafts and crossword puzzles until her eyes had failed her. She also enjoyed trivia games and had appointment TV for Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune.
It would be rare to see her without her hot chocolate with marshmallows.
All she ever cared about was family. She loved being a wife and mother and grandmother. She wanted everyone to be healthy, happy and loved. Of all God’s creatures Maggie represented the best of them. In 94 years she barely spoke a negative word about anybody. She believed in the best in people. Remarkably as her dementia progressed and her memories waned, she maintained her pleasant disposition and personality. Always grateful for her blessings in life. Maggie embraced the simple things. She really enjoyed going for long rides in the car. or lunch with a friend. Sitting in the park people watching. Traveling through the nearby neighborhoods during the holidays to look at the Christmas lights. Maggie will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
Her husband of 57 years, Harold G. “Dutch” Houser died in 2013. Maggie is survived by her three sons: Eric (Denise), Keith, and Mark; four grandchildren: Heather Bahel (Brandon) and Cati, Cody and Kyle Houser and two great-granddaughters, Tierney and Fallon Bahel and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also preceded in death by her son Carl Houser and two siblings, Mary Carter and Frank Bryson.
A committal service will be at 1pm on May 20th, at the Chapel of Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE 19701.
