Ian Wellings, age 90, of Wilmington, DE passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on Sunday, April 21, 2024.
He was born and raised in Glasgow, Scotland and was the son of the late Elsie (Crosby) and John A. Wellings.
Ian obtained a Doctorate degree in Organic Chemistry from Glasgow University. He then worked at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden as a research chemist before emigrating to the United States. When he arrived in the United States with his wife and newborn son, Ian worked for Johns Hopkins University as a research chemist. He spent the next 40 years working as a research chemist at Dupont.
Ian enjoyed tennis and stamp collecting. He was a member of the Brandywine Valley Stamp Club and the Dupont Country Club.
Ian is survived by his wife of 62 years, Kjerstin Wellings; two sons, Anders Wellings (wife Jeanne) and Gordon Wellings (wife Michele); five grandchildren, Peter, Elizabeth, Alexander, Brittany, and Erik; four great-grandchildren, and a brother in Scotland, Bruce Harris.
Services and burial will be held privately.
