John Joseph Slank Jr. of Newark, Delaware passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home on May 2, 2024.
He was born in Jeddo, Pennsylvania on September 20, 1940 to John Joseph Sr. and Helen Slank. John was the youngest in addition to his 3 siblings and the only son. John’s family eventually moved to Wilmington, Delaware where he was raised. He graduated from Wilmington High School in 1958 and began a 42- year career at the Dupont Experimental Station. He enjoyed bowling and softball during his younger years.
John married his wife Bonnie in 1968 spending 56 years raising and caring for his family. Besides his wife Bonnie, John is survived by his children John Slank III (Carla), Debbie Mowery, and Keith Garwood (Robin). His grandchildren Sarah Lavely (Earle) , John Slank IV (Haley), Colin Slank (Renee), Owen Slank (Courtney), Josey Garwood (Sean), Eric Garwood Jr, (Jenny), and Frank Garwood (Erika). His great grandchildren, Jackson, Savannah, Asher, Franklin, Jean, Autumn, Anna and Brooke.
In addition to his parents. he was predeceased in death by two sons Michael Slank and Eric Garwood Sr. (Dianna), son in law Tim Mowery, and three sisters, Marcella, Margurite and Bernardine.
A private burial will be planned.
