Sigrid G. Schulze, age 93 of Newark, DE, passed away on May 1, 2024, at Millcroft Nursing Center.
Sigrid was the youngest of four children born to Helene and Bruno Seidel. She spent her youth in her native Berlin, Germany. There she trained as a childcare/nursery instructor. She married Siegfried “Siggi” Schulze and immigrated to the United States in 1954 with him and their young daughter. They first lived in Wilmington and later moved to Newark where they settled for the rest of their lives.
Sigrid, became a stay-at-home-mom and homemaker. Her pride and joy was her family and seeing it grow. She kept the German holiday traditions alive. Christmas was her favorite time of year, decorating and baking. Though she was afraid of dogs when she was young, dogs, and animals in general, were special to her. She owned two and the home became a haven for neighborhood dogs or cats who needed to chill.
Besides her parents, Sigrid is also predeceased by; her husband, Siegfried “Siggi” Schulze; 2 brothers, Herbert and Horst Seidel; a sister, Wally Cleaver; and a grandson, Christopher Schulze.
Sigrid is survived by a daughter, Elke Mackiewicz (Mark); a son, Lutz Schulze (Diane); grandchildren, Karen Mackiewicz, Stephanie Gerstenhaber (David), and Matthew Schulze (Rozina). She also leaves great-grandchildren, Lucy and Emmitt Gerstenhaber.
Services and interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Brandywine Valley SPCA, 290 Churchmans Rd, New Castle, DE 19720.
