Day, Janet Anne Martin

Janet Anne Martin Day, age 89, passed away at home surrounded by her children on May 12, 2024.

She was born and raised in Wilmington, DE. Janet graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School and Goldey Beacom College.

Janet was actively involved in her community including Job’s Daughters, Eastern Star, VFW Auxiliary, and the Veterans Administration Hospital of Wilmington hobby cart. Before macular degeneration took the majority of her sight, she enjoyed collecting lighthouses, doing needlework, playing cards, reading and puzzles. She loved rooting for the Phillies, GO JT!! Camping was a longtime favorite for Mom and Dad with both family and friends which evolved into Mom and Dad becoming snowbirds, escaping to Florida.

She is predeceased by her husband and love of her life, E. Watson Day, Jr, as well as her parents, Charles Thorpe Martin III and Adelaide Lewis Martin, and her brothers, Charles Thorpe Martin IV and Donald Lewis Martin.

She is survived by her children Bonnie L. Twilley (Chip), Gordon W. Day (Sue), Diane Stimeling (Greg) and Deborah Gripp (Dave) as well as 10 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

A viewing will be held on Friday, May 24 From 10-11am at Brandywine Valley Church, 7 Mt. Lebanon Rd, Wilmington, DE where a funeral service will follow at 11am. Burial will immediately follow at Newark Union Church & Cemetery, Wilmington.
