José Riera Soler, age 95, of Wilmington, Delaware, died May 21, 2024 at home surrounded by his family.
A native of Spain, José earned degrees in education and theology, attaining a doctor of education. He was a lifelong educator, serving as a teacher, learning disabilities teacher consultant and in various roles serving children with disabilities in the K-12 educational sector. José was an accomplished administrator of adult learning and bilingual education programs. He served with the Newark, New Jersey School District from 1973-1998. Additionally, José worked as a privately contracted educator and consultant for many years throughout the states of New Jersey and New York.
José was a parishioner of Immaculate Heart of Mary and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He volunteered as an AARP driving instructor.
José is survived by his wife Luz del Carmen Riera, four children, twelve grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
