Allene Leach Goodfellow, 101 years old, passed away peacefully into heaven on May 29, 2024. She had a long, full life, remembering as a child, when the horse pulling the ice cart on the street in front of her house slipped on the snow and very few cars were on around.
She graduated from Wilmington High School and the University of Delaware, met her husband, M. Preston Goodfellow, Jr. at the New Castle Airbase during WWII and traveled the world with him. Her passions were people, pets, plants and, most of all, peace.
While mainly a stay-at-home Mom, she also worked at Hagley Museum and loved gardening and flower arranging. A very talented artist, Allene painted china and did crewel embroidery while getting dinner on the table every night at 6pm. She loved music and dancing and was still tap dancing at age 73. Her church, Concord Presbyterian, was very important to her and she continued to harangue them with her anti-war stance and belief in reincarnation.
The family would like to extend their profound thanks to Sunrise Assisted Living and Compassionate Care Hospice for the loving support and attention they gave to Allene.
Allene’s husband of 66 years, M. Preston, Jr. died in 2013. She is survived by her daughter, Joan; her grandson, Daniel S. Faircloth, and 4 adorable great-grandchildren, Riley, Rhyan, Rowan and River. Allene is also preceded in death by her son M. Preston III.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday June 15, at 11 am at Concord Presbyterian Church, 1800 Fairfax Blvd, Wilmington, DE. Burial was held privately.
