Lednum, Harry J., Jr.

Harry James Lednum Jr., went quietly to his Lord on June 9, 2024, in his home at Cadia in Pike Creek, Wilmington, Delaware. Harry was a Newark, Delaware native, born November 28, 1941, son of the late Harry James Lednum Sr. and Marion (Heller) Lednum. Harry attended Christiana High School, graduating in 1959, and later attended Goldey-Beacom College concentrating on a degree in business. He worked as a civilian for the State of Delaware at Delaware State Police Troop 2 in Dover until retirement.

In his early years, Harry was adventurous, traveling via plane and car from the East Coast to the West Coast as well as covering the East Coast from North to South. As a gifted Pianist and Organist, he frequently entertained on his home organ and the glorious pipe organ at St Hedwig’s Church in Wilmington for his brother John’s wedding. As a music enthusiast, he followed the career of Opera tenor, Jerry Hadley, and popular artist, Kate Smith, eventually becoming the president of her fan club. As a bachelor, Harry was a devoted, uncle and great-uncle. His family was his greatest joy. He would start planning Christmas in October by purchasing as many gifts as his Christmas savings would allow for his niece and nephew. As life progressed Harry became home-bound, but always looked forward to Sunday morning family visits and spending the holidays at his brother’s home for celebrations. He often remarked that his nephew and niece, John and Lindsay were the closest he would ever come to having his own children.

As the Lednum Patriarch he eventually became the family historian, sharing stories of ancestors from Tilghman Island, Md, and New Castle, De. He cherished his Sunday phone call from his cousin, Linda so they could share many loving memories of their childhood. Harry was predeceased by his parents Harry and Marion Lednum, and his younger brother John Lambert Lednum. He is survived by his sister-in-law Mary Theresa Lebidziewicz Lednum, nephew John Daniel Lednum (Lisa), niece Lindsay Erin Keller (Steven), great niece, Addisyn Keller, and great nephews Chase and John Lednum and Reece Keller.
