Leroy C. “Roy” or “Sonny” Davis, Jr. age 91, of Wilmington and Rehoboth, DE passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family in Lewes, DE on June 18, 2024.
He was born and raised in Silview, DE and is the son of the late Mildred R. Marsh (Stradley) and Leroy C. Davis, Sr. Leroy proudly serviced his country in the U. S. Navy during the Korean War.
After the war, he worked for the Dupont Company for 30 years at Chestnut Run. Roy, his mother and wife Betty were founders and owner/operators of Four Acres Trailer Sales and Mobile Home Park. He and Betty enjoyed their time spent in Naples, FL., Cayman Islands and Rehoboth Beach. Roy was a Master Mason at the Armstrong Lodge #26, A.F. & A.M., Newport, DE.
Roy’s family would like to give special thanks to the staff at The Lodge at Historic Lewes where he resided for the last seven months and Vitas Hospice for their love and care given to Roy.
Leroy’s wife of 64 years, Betty (Tonge) died in 2017. He is survived by his daughter, Joyce L. Prettyman (Gary); grandchildren, Brandon Prettyman, Lauren Shaw (Bobby), Marissa Morrison (Greg), Alison Davis; and great grandchildren, Brantley, Shayne, Luca, Carmine, Giavanna, William and Layne and his companion Ann Johnson.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, June 27, beginning at 9:30 am at the McCrery and Harra Funeral Home, 3710 Kirkwood Hwy., Wilmington. At 11 am, a Masonic Service will take place followed by the funeral service. Burial will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park.
