Elizabeth “Courtney” Porstman, beloved mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2024. She was born on February 6, 1945, in Atlanta, GA to the late William and Martha Timmis. Courtney dedicated over five decades to nursing, first earning an Associates Degree from the Community College of Allegheny County and later achieving her BSN from Wilmington University.
Courtney’s career in nursing spanned various specialties, but she found her true calling in psychiatric nursing and hospice care. She spent her final 12 years at Compassionate Hospice and Heartland Hospice, retiring in December 2019.
Courtney is survived by her daughters, Kristen Dunne (Kevin) and Hilary Bennett (Lou); her sisters, Mary Robb and Gail Morgan Timmis; her grandchildren, Ryan and Kate Dunne, and Beatrice Bennett; her cousin, Lorelei Bouton; and her former husband, Robert Porstman. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Molly Dunne.
Throughout her life, Courtney enjoyed needlepoint, knitting, and volunteering for the Altar Guild at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church. She enjoyed watching the Hallmark Channel, golf, and ice skating, but above all, she treasured time spent with her grandchildren and playing basket bingo with her late friend, Diane Arcidiacono.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Christiana Care’s trauma team, Dr. Michael Principe, and Dr. David Chen, for their exceptional care. They are also deeply thankful to Delaware Hospice for their extraordinary care and compassionate support during Courtney’s final days.
A visitation will be held on Monday, July 1, 2024, from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, 2800 Duncan Road, Wilmington, DE 19808, followed by a service at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Delaware Hospice or the Palliative Care Team at Nemours Children’s Hospital in Wilmington, DE.
