Mazza, Mary Anne

Mary Anne Mazza was born in Lansdowne, Pennsylvania, on August 15, 1943, to the proud parents of Dan and Helen Kelly. She attended St. Cyril’s Grade School almost as soon as she could walk, because of the wonderful Sisters of the Immaculate Heart that ran the school. She later graduated from Archbishop Prendergast High School in Drexel Hill. She also attended Delaware Tech and Widener University for continuing education, love of learning, and pleasure.

Mary Anne was never afraid to take on the challenges of any job, and joined the work force at the age of 18, and proved to be an asset wherever she was employed. She worked in the Accounting Department at Elwyn Institute, Elwyn, PA., Assistant Bookkeeper and Payroll Manager for Leader Nursing Home, Billing Coordinator/ Surgical Secretary for Orthopedic Specialist and Dr. Andrew Gelman, and Billing Coordinator for Pediatrics, and Dr. J. Jordan Storlazzi. Probably, the position she enjoyed the most was her job as Secretary/ Ticket Sales, at the University of Delaware. It was during this time that she met the love of her life and her best friend, Guy. They were married on September 9, 1967, and shared 56 wonderful years of marriage. They were blessed with one child. Mary Anne made sure that Angela received all the support and every assurance available. She was rewarded for her efforts, as Angela has gone on to become a highly respected Endocrinologist. Mary Anne always saw this as her greatest achievement.

She had many interests and hobbies, among them were sewing, knitting, reading, ceramics, and of course shopping. Mary Anne enjoyed traveling, especially her many bus trips to several New York City shows, Fleet Week, the Statue of Liberty and Elis Island, Niagara Falls, Williamsburg, VA., Salem, MA., cruising to Bermuda and the Caribbean, friends and family dinners, and flying to Florida to visit her daughter. Her fondest memories though, have always been about the beach. She loved the Jersey shore, especially Sea Isle City, basking in the sun, walking the promenade, watching people, salt water taffy, and the sanctuary of her condo. We will all sorely miss her.

A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Church of the Holy Child Church, 2500 Naamans Rd., Wilmington, DE on Thursday, July 11 at 11:30 am where friends are invited to pay their respects beginning at 10:30 am. Burial will be private.

The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, all contributions be sent to Humane Animal Partners (previously the Delaware SPCA) in Mary Anne’s name.
