Christine Duffy Smith passed away on July 4, 2024 at Christiana Care Hospital in Wilmington, DE with her soulmate Ed by her side. She is survived by her sister Cathie, who, along with her extended family and friends, mourns the loss of Christine and cherishes her memory.
She leaves behind a rich legacy both professionally and personally. Professionally, she contributed her expertise in scientific and regulatory roles within the pharmaceutical industry, having worked for Dupont, Astra Zeneca, and other independent companies over her career.
On a personal level, Christine shared a devoted companionship with Ed for over 35 years, becoming an integral part of his family. To Ed’s four children: Michael, Elisa, Dori, and Jonathan and seven grandchildren: Nathaniel, Kaitlin, Emma, Sydney, Jacob, Brandon, and Alex, she was known affectionately as the “Awesome Aunt Chris”. Christine extended her caring influence through programs like the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, where she mentored Kate (her “little sister”) and Kate’s sister Heidi, offering steadfast guidance and support to them and their families over the years.
Her impact was not limited to professional achievements or family ties; Christine cultivated lasting friendships, such as her lifelong bond with P.J., which began during her college years at Hofstra.
Christine also had a deep passion for nature, particularly for the majestic landscapes of Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks, where she found solace and inspiration amid their natural beauty throughout her life.
In her final moments, Christine chose to spend her time reaching out by phone, bidding farewell to all those who held a dear place in her heart. Her life was marked by compassion, dedication, and a profound commitment to those she loved and supported throughout her journey.
