Cook, Donna

Donna Ann Cook, 91 of Wilmington, Delaware died peacefully at Wilmington Hospital on June 26, 2024, after a brief illness. She was born on May 12, 1933, in Syracuse, NY to Walter D. and Anna (nee Woods) Brockwell. She made lifelong friends while attending Lyncourt public schools and Syracuse Central High School. Learning to type in high school, she began work as a secretary at Muench-Kreuzer Candle Co. after graduation and was also an active leader in the Rainbow Girls organization. Soon she moved to a new position at New York Telephone Co. as a secretary and was quickly promoted to Customer Service Representative as her work ethic and polite friendly manner were noted by her supervisor and colleagues.

Donna married Donald Cook in 1956 and suspended her career to make a warm and wonderful home in Liverpool, NY, where they raised two sons. Later, she rejoined the workforce as a secretary in the Liverpool Public School System. She and Don relocated to Roswell, GA (1984) and Donna joined the Product Panel Testing group at Kimberly-Clark Corp. She and Don remained in Roswell until 2005 when they moved to the Wilmington, DE area to be closer to family, especially their two grandchildren whom she loved dearly.

Donna was a dedicated member of the community and was known for her kindness and generosity. A very caring and social woman, she relished leading and contributing to all sorts of activities relating to her children’s education, her church and her neighborhood. She helped organize and lead social/welcoming committees, bake sales, breakfasts and bazaars. Anything to get her out with the family and friends she loved. Knitting was a special passion, and she loved to make sweaters, hats and gloves for everyone, many of which were shipped to overseas service personnel. She was an active, and cherished member of several church communities over the years including Westminster Presbyterian Church (Syracuse), Northbrook United Methodist Church (Roswell) and, most recently, Trinity Presbyterian Church (Wilmington).

She is survived by her brother Dale and his wife Dolores Brockwell of Syracuse, NY; her sons Steven and his wife Stacey of Sudbury, MA, and Thomas of Claymont, DE; and her grandchildren Chris of Wilmington, DE, and Sammy of Cambridge, MA. She was predeceased by her husband, Donald.

Donna’s family is grateful for the many warm and compassionate friends at Trinity Presbyterian Church and Belmont (Garnet Valley) who made her and Don feel so welcome in the community, and to the wonderful caregivers at Harbor Chase and Wilmington Hospital.

Friends are invited to a memorial service scheduled for 12:00 pm on 8/3/2024 at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 1120 Darley Rd, Wilmington, DE 19810. Services will also be live streamed.
