Buono, Victor R.

Victor R. Buono, age 80, passed away peacefully on July 17th, 2024 at home with his family by his side. He was born September 15th, 1943 in Chester, PA to Louis J. Buono and M. Teresa Fusco.

Vic’s number one passion was his family, paramount among them was the care and welfare of his beloved wife Kathy who assumed eternal life in 2021. A close second was the rearing of his sons Vic W. and Mike and the guidance he offered to his grandchildren, especially Mikey with whom he shared their tradition of a Saturday morning sports breakfast for many years. As a devoted Dad, he volunteered with the Brandywine Warriors and led the organization as their president. He was also a coach for the Brandywine Little League. A devout Catholic, he was a very active parishioner of The Church of the Holy Child where Kathy was a member of the staff.

Vic graduated from St. James High School in 1961. Mr. Buono was a member of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard. Vic spent his professional career as a manager, first at the Hagley facility of the DuPont General Services Department and eventually in downtown Wilmington. Taking an early-out retirement option, he moved on to Pitney Bowes as a regional business manager and finally ended his work career as the State of Delaware’ s Chief Toll Officer and would often relate the pleas for leniency by scofflaws who had evaded tolls.

Vic was a lifelong Philadelphia sports fan, chief among them, the “Phillies”, but also followed the Eagles intently. His music tastes centered around Neil Diamond and he was known to camp out to acquire his latest album. He relished the taste of spicy Italian food and a Canadian Club Manhattan- Stirred not Shaken.

Besides his parents and spouse, he is predeceased by two siblings, Anna Louise and Gerard who died as small children. Vic is survived by his sons, Victor W. and Michael; a sister, Marie DeCostanza (John); grandchildren, Mikey, Haley, Hannah, Josephine and a great granddaughter Breilla. He is also survived by his sister- in law Gayle Withers, and brothers-in-law Billy and David Wilson, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and lifelong friends whose lives he positively impacted.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 25, 2024 from 10:30 to 11:30 at The Church of the Holy Child, 2500 Naamans Rd, Wilmington, DE where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:30 am. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or The Ministry of Caring, 115 E. 4th St., Wilmington, DE 19801
