Przywara, Lorraine

Lorraine Przywara, beloved wife, mother, educator, and community volunteer, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2024, at the age of 88. Born in Wilmington, DE, Lorraine led a life rich with purpose, dedication, and adventure. After graduating from the University of Delaware, Lorraine embarked on a fulfilling career in education, teaching French, Russian, and English at Brandywine High School for 30 years until her retirement in 1991. She was passionate about broadening her students’ horizons, leading numerous educational trips to the Soviet Union, Russia, and Poland.

Her commitment to education extended beyond the classroom. Lorraine served as the past president of AMPOL and People to People. In retirement, she continued to inspire and support students through homebound tutoring. Lorraine was a dedicated volunteer at the Grand Opera House and Winterthur. She was also a cherished member of the choir at Saint Joseph’s on the Brandywine.

An avid traveler, Lorraine had an insatiable curiosity about the world, visiting 100 countries throughout her lifetime. Her adventures brought her joy and countless stories that she eagerly shared with friends and family. Lorraine is survived by her loving husband Dick, her two sons Larry and Stephen, their wives Kathy and Tahsha, and her four grandchildren Alyssa, Tom, Dylan and Morgan. She was predeceased by her husband of 48 years, Joseph Przywara, and her daughters Susan and Michelle. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, education, and global citizenship. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday July 31 from 10-11am with a Memorial Mass at 11am at St. Joseph on the Brandywine Church, 10 Old Church Rd. Greenville, DE 19807. Burial will be held privately.
