Evelyn May Morgan, age 101, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on July 27,2024 surrounded by her loving family and friends. She was born in Wilmington,DE on October 11, 1922 and was the daughter of the late Clifton and Emma Mae Yarrington. She attended a one room schoolhouse at Hamilton Park Elementary and later went to Rosehilll Elementary, Richardson Middle and graduated from Conrad High School in 1939.
Evelyn’s mother passed away at a young age leaving her father with 4 young children. She lived with her grandparents for many of her childhood years and had wonderful memories that she shared often. She later returned to live with her loving father and step-mother along with her sister and 2 brothers. She always had a love for older people that would shape God’s future plan for her life. Evelyn enjoyed sharing how she took an early retirement, after 27 years of working at the Bell Telephone Company, to answer the call of God and minister in local nursing homes. She had a true love and compassion for the people that she shared the love of Jesus with. This ministry lasted 45 years and many came to know Jesus as their personal Savior during this time.
She spent years teaching Sunday School when she was younger and later lead the Women’s Bible Study at Praise Assembly in Newark Delaware. She would often recall the wonderful friendships formed and special times of prayer and fellowship during those years. Her other passions were reading the Bible and praying, listening to gospel music, cooking and baking. She loved going on daytrips to Lancaster, PA with family and friends and would always bring back fresh baked goodies or vegetables to share.
Evelyn loved spending time with her family and friends and the door to her home was always open. Her home became a refuge for many and when you walked in, you felt peace and safety. She was always there to lend a helping hand and words of encouragement to anyone who needed it. Her life was truly a reflection of God’s great love. We will miss her dearly but we’re also rejoicing with her that her healing is now complete. We look forward to the day when we’re all reunited in Heaven.
She is survived by son-Ronald C. Morgan (Debbie), granddaughter-Julie M. MacMicking (Wayne) with whom she lived, great grandchildren-Shawn N. Naylor, Kathleen L. Naylor, great-great granchildren- Taron, Tayanna, Colton and Alexa.
