Huffman, Alice Lillian

Alice Lillian Huffman, age 82, passed away on July 30, 2024. She was born in Camden, NJ and was the daughter of the late Mary (Pratt) and Earl Pelly. During her elementary school days in Upland, PA she studied ballet and starred as “the prettiest jewel in the jewel box” in a community dance recital. Later, at Claymont High School in Claymont, DE, she served as a varsity cheerleader, Student Council Secretary, and member of the high school chorus — all while maintaining her status as an honor roll student.

Alice married Mike Villanueva in 1958 and had four sons over the next 11 years. She began working at Delaware Trust Bank in 1971, holding a variety of positions from Teller to Asst. Branch Manager/Loan Officer during her career of more than 25 years. Outside of work, she enjoyed singing in the Sweet Adelines chorus (Diamond State Chapter Treasurer), ice skating, bowling, reading, doll collecting, activities with her dear friends Peggy Powell and Lynn Montgomery, hosting numerous family dinners and celebrations, and raising her sons. After her divorce from Mike, Alice married Dick Huffman in 1990. Together, she and Dick traveled extensively to Europe, Hawaii, the Caribbean, and all-over North America. In addition to traveling, Alice also enjoyed visits from friends and relatives, watching TV comedies (especially BritComs on PBS), attending Broadway musicals, and sipping champagne.

Alice was pre-deceased by her husband of 25 years, Richard G. Huffman and her grandson, Darren. She is survived by her sons Michael Villanueva, David Villanueva (Alexis), Greg Villanueva (Darlene), and Brian Villanueva (Nicole), and 5 grandchildren: Eric, Christopher, Matthew, Megan, and Savannah. The family wishes to thank Lodge Lane Assisted Living and Parkview Nursing & Rehabilitation, both in Wilmington, DE, for their tireless compassion and support during Alice’s later years.

A celebration of Alice’s life will be held on Wednesday, August 7 at 11 a.m. at McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE, where friends may call after 10 am. Burial will be held privately.
