RUSSELL L FINNEY, (95), of Claymont, DE beloved husband, father, brother and grandfather, went home to be with the Lord surrounded by loving family on August 7,2024. Born April 27, 1929, in Chester, PA. He was the son of the late Herbert and Anna (Lenderman) Finney.
Russell (Russ) loved traveling with his wife of (60+) years, Lois A. (Kraus) Finney. He loved riding in his speed boat, building and renovating all six of his children’s homes into his 70’s. Russ loved the Eagles, Phillies, Flyers and the Sixers.
A graduate of the Patton School in Elizabeth Town PA, Russ worked at the Sunoco refinery in Marcus Hook, PA his entire career until he retired in 1985.
After retirement he started his own home improvement business. He was a skilled craftsman, carpenter, machinist and mechanic. When people would say “you can’t do that” he would say “watch me.” He brought open concept to the two-car garage long before anyone ever knew what open concept was.
Russ was preceded in death by his sister, Emily F. Finney (2021). Russ is survived by his wife Lois, children: Russell (Debbie), James (Ann), Bev Atz (Tom), Steven Crowe (Shulan), David (Karen) and Alice Gold (Joseph). Grandchildren: Tommy, Andrew, Stephanie, Jennifer, Jessica, Amanda, Matthew, Ashley, Morgan, Jacob, and Joshua.
All are welcome to attend visitation and services on August 21, 2024 at McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington DE 19803. Visitation 10:00–11:00 a.m. Service to follow at 11:00.
