Carol Jane Leedy, 73, of Claymont, DE, passed away peacefully surrounded by family. Born in New Jersey on July 9, 1951.
Carol spent the last 34 years of her life in Claymont, where she was a beloved member of the community. She earned her bachelor’s degree from West Chester University and began her career at Bell Atlantic, which later became Verizon, where she worked for nearly 30 years and was a Computer Programmer by the time she retired in the early 2000s.
After retiring, she volunteered with the Red Cross, assisting Hurricane Katrina victims in New Orleans in 2005, and later became a part-time bus driver, where she made lasting friendships. In addition to her love for animals, Carol was a devoted Philadelphia sports fan and would often be found wearing her favorite Eagles jacket or Phillies jersey, proudly cheering on her teams. She was particularly passionate about cats, owning two of her own, and generously supported animal rescues throughout her life. Carol dedicated herself to helping both animals and people in need, and her kindness, strength, and love for both will be forever cherished.
Carol is survived by her son, Sean Leedy; daughter-in-law, Kristin Leedy; grandson, Owen Leedy; sister, Deborah McKinkley; and brothers, Clint Lawson and Andy Lawson, as well as several close friends who were dear to her. She is also remembered by her ex-husband and father of her son, William Leedy, and was preceded in death by her parents, Calvin and Catherine Lawson, and special friend, Michael Barrett.
A memorial service to honor her life will be held at McCrery & Harra Funeral Homes on Concord Pike in Wilmington, DE, on Friday October 25. The viewing will be from 10:00 to 11:00 AM, and the memorial service will begin at 11:00 AM. A celebration of life reception will be held afterward at 12:30 PM at the Brandywine Club in Claymont, DE.
