Way, Virginia

Virginia Lammey Way passed away peacefully on October 19, 2024 at the age of 89.

She was born in Unionville, PA to Paul and Lola Lammey. Virginia attended Unionville High School and was valedictorian of the class of 1953. She continued her education at Gettysburg College where she was a member of the Alpha Xi Delta Sorority, receiving her BA in 1957. She completed her MA from Columbia University in 1958.

Virginia was a teacher her entire career beginning at Lansdowne Aldan High School, followed by P.S. duPont High School, Dickinson High School, and finally, finishing her career at Wilmington High School.

During her summers she directed Camp Sunnybrook for the Delaware Association of the Blind from 1968-1997.

Virginia was a long-time member of Unionville Presbyterian Church serving in many capacities.

She is preceded in death by her mother and father, sister Helen Lammey Reeves, and her daughter Elizabeth Anne Way. Virginia is survived by her son Christopher Way (Denise) of Wilmington, DE, daughter Michele Andrews (Erik) of Oberlin, OH, and daughter-in-law Dorothy Dougherty. Grandchildren and great grandchildren include Leah Way (Ariana Zarate) of Salem, MA; Jarrett Way (Leigha) and son Samuel of Wilmington, DE; Sarah Stafford (Jonathan) and children John George and Emma of Camp Hill, PA; and Erickson Andrews (Isabelle) of Georgetown, TX.

A small family memorial will be held at a later date.
