Hughes, Jeanne Gladys Cashman

Jeanne Gladys Cashman Hughes of West Chester, PA died on Oct. 22 at age 94. She was born in Philadelphia, PA, the only child of Clarence George and Gladys Leah Mann Cashman.

She graduated from Lansdowne High School in 1948 and the University of Delaware in 1952. She married Harry S. Hughes, Jr. on June 19, 1952. In 1962 they moved to Woodbine in Brandywine Hundred.

In 1968 Jeanne went to work for Smith Kline and French Laboratories in Philadelphia where she was the Accounts Payable manager and later a Financial Analyst. She and her husband retired from SmithKline in 1986. They then founded HCS, LTD, a consulting company that provided business services to mental health providers. In 2003 they closed their business and traveled the world, visiting all seven continents.

Jeanne served for many years on the Board of Directors of the Friends of Rockwood and for six years on the Board of Planned Parenthood of Delaware. She was the fearless leader of Girl Scout Troop 192. In 1968 she took twenty four Girl Scouts for a three week trip to Mexico. She worked on the genealogy of her family and that of her husband for over 30 years.

She was predeceased by her husband of 71 years, Harry S. Hughes, Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Diane Jeanne McKenna (Richard), son David Fletcher Hughes (Theresa), grandsons James Peter Lambrou II (Hannah Lewis) and Justin Vincent Hughes (Christina), granddaughters Jessica Jeanne Hernandez (Richard) and Alexis Diane Lambrou and four great grandchildren, Ellie and Emmeline Hughes and Carter and Cole Hernandez.

Interment will be at the Delaware Veteran’s Cemetery. At the family’s request, services will be private.
