Robert P. deBussy, age 88, of St. Pete Beach, FL and Hockessin, DE passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2024, in St. Petersburg, FL. Robert (Bob) was born in Scranton, PA, son of the late Albert and Mable deBussy. After graduating from Central High in 1954 Bob attended Lehigh University where he graduated and met his wife Debbie. They were married in 1958.
He received his undergraduate degree in chemical engineering from Lehigh University and his master’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania. Soon after graduation and getting married the couple spent 3 years with the United States Air Force in Okinawa, Japan, before eventually settling in Hockessin, DE. Bob retired from the Air Force in 1989 and the DuPont Company in 1996. Shortly after retiring Bob and Debbie spent their winters in St. Pete Beach and summers in Hockessin.
After Debbie passed away Bob met Muriel at a high school class reunion. They were married in 2005. Bob and Muriel continued the tradition of winters in Florida and summers in Delaware. Throughout his life Bob enjoyed traveling with his family, hunting and fishing trips with his boys and friends. He loved to spend time with his friends in Florida especially down by the pool and the hot tub. He had a close group of friends that would get together for cocktails and Sunday dinner.
Bob is survived by his wife of 19 years, The Rev. Muriel V. deBussy and her daughter Virginia Wallace and husband Andrew along with his grandchildren Scott and his wife Lauren and Trevor and great grandson Noah. Bob is also survived by his sons Mark R. deBussy and his wife Donna, and David M. deBussy and Teresa and his grandchildren Christina and Steven. He was predeceased by his son Andrew P. deBussy and his wife Deborah E. deBussy.
A service will be held on Monday November 4, 2024, at 12:00pm at St. Barnabas’ Episcopal Church, 2800 Duncan Rd, Wilmington, DE 19808. There will be a visitation at the church from 10:00am - 12:00pm. Burial with full Military Honors will be in All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington, DE.
