Donald M. Ragan of Newark, DE went home to be with the Lord on October 23, 2024 at the age of 89.
He was born in Chesapeake City, MD on May 3, 1935, son of the late Curtis and Hazel (McCoy) Ragan.
He was proud to have served in the US Navy aboard the USS Lake Champlain. Following his military service he worked at the DuPont Company, retiring after 33 years of dedicated service.
He graduated from Rising Sun High School and went on later in his life to earn degrees from Goldey Beacom College and Wilmington University.
In addition to raising a family he participated in many sports including; a bowling league, senior olympics, golf and was a fast pitch softball pitcher for over 30 years. He played in many different leagues including; DuPont, Delaware City, and Pine Grove. He loved hunting and fishing. Don was an avid Phillies and Eagles fan. His favorite spot though was on his porch at the beach.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Debra E. Ragan, his brother, Robert C. Ragan and his sister-in-law, Marie Ragan. Don is survived by his wife of 67 years, Elva Jean (Brown) Ragan, daughters Donna J. Spadea (Greg) and Diane L. Roberts (Randy), brother, Lawrence Ragan and sister-in-law, Agnes Ragan, brother-in-law Dale Brown (Jan), grandchildren; Jennifer L. Barrett, Ryan R. Roberts, Alexis A. Spadea (JD) and Alex T. Spadea (Antonella) great grandchildren; Hazel E. Barrett and Millie R. Barrett along with nieces and nephews.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:00am -11:00am on Wednesday, October 30, 2024 at McCrery-Harra Funeral Home, 3710 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19808 where a funeral service will begin at 11:00am. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE 19720.
