Karbonick, William "Bill"

William (Bill) Karbonick, 78, died October 26, 2024. He was born on November 11, 1942 as the only child of Peter and Katherine Karbonick in Wilmington, DE. He grew up and attended school in Chesapeake City, MD and began his baseball career playing in the first Little League in Cecil County in 1952. Bill was a proud graduate of Salesianium class of 1960. On December 27, 1960 he married the love of his life, Virginia McFarland. They were married for sixty wonderful years and had four children: Bill Jr. (1961), Michael (1963), Lori (1965), and Steven (1966).

Bill was inducted into the Delaware Softball Hall of Fame, having won 9 state championships. He was a catcher that had the distinction of catching for the greatest softball pitcher of all time, the late great Herb Dudley from Clearwater, FL. Bill was also the President of the Stanton - Newport Little League from 1973-1979. His favorite job professionally was working for W.L. Gore from which he retired after 26 years of loyal service.

Bill is survived by his granddaughter, Victoria Sianni, her husband Jordan Sianni, their children Fiona and Jordan Jr, and his son Steven Karbonick.

Services for Bill will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 5 at the McCrery & Harra Funeral Home (3710 Kirkwood Hwy., Wilmington, DE 19808). Friends may call beginning at 11:00 a.m. Interment at All Saints Cemetery will follow.
