Dr. Peter Van Horne died peacefully on October 25, 2024 at the age of 79. He was born on December 28, 1944, in Caldwell, Idaho and grew up in Nampa, Idaho. He graduated from the Church Divinity School of the Pacific with a Master of Divinity and a Master in Church History. There he met his wife Beverly Jean Dew.
Peter is survived by his wife, The Rev. Beverly Van Horne; sons Michael (John) and Sam (Amanda); two grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. From an early age Peter loved history, particularly Church History.
He enjoyed traveling around the country to learn about family history and always had a story to tell about a relative from long ago. Peter was a teacher at heart. He played the French horn, enjoyed science fiction and collecting fountain pens. When he moved to Maryland he became a Baltimore Ravens fan. However, his favorite team was the New York Yankees. He was sober for 40 years and touched the lives of many people seeking recovery, by providing his counsel and sharing his experience, strength, and hope.He was a student of Church History all his life and loved all matters ecclesial. Throughout his life, he counseled many towards ordination and helped to form and train those on a path toward ministry in the Episcopal Church.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00p.m. on Sunday, November 17, 2024 at Trinity Episcopal Church; 1108 N. Adams Str.; Wilmington, DE 19801.
