Taylor, Betty Mae

Betty Mae Tayor, died peacefully on November 22, 2024. Born July 29, 1927 to the late William and Lillian Taylor in Wilmington, Delaware, Betty grew up in Wilmington and graduated from Wilmington High. She started her career at Beneficial and worked for them her entire career.

Betty spent every weekend with her best friend, Marian Cagnacci, at the Jersey Shore (Brigantine). After her retirement, Betty and Marian moved to Brigantine and spent a good number of years there. With the housing and big casinos moving in, the landscape of Brigantine was changing - not to mention the sky rocketing taxes - so they both agreed to move back to Delaware in 1992. What better place to move than Silview, the family home that our Pop Cambell built in 1942? She made so many memories there, from feeding the cats, squirrels, birds and yes, even a few possums when her eyesight was gone! They looked like cats to her!

Perhaps most of all, Betty cherished the strong friendships with the neighbors. Friendships that lasted thru moves and even death. From Jan next door, who she would talk to thru the window, and Helen across the street, and Marie next door, and Trina up the street, all of whom were always there to check in on Aunt Betty as she was aging and had lost her best friend, Marian. You all were very special! As they say, Friends are the Family you choose, and you all were exactly that.

Betty was the last of the Taylors. She lived 97 wonderful years and she never stopped making people feel happy, she was a jokester to the end. She always said you have to be happy and enjoy your time here, because you never know when the man upstairs is going to take you. Aunt Betty was a big part of her nieces’ and nephews’ lives, spending holidays with them, and taking them Easter clothes shopping every year. So many memories of fun family times, everyone loved Aunt Betty.

Betty was preceded in death by her mother and father, William and Lillian Taylor (nee Brand); brothers, Alex and Billy; sister, Lillian; her Best Friend since she was 12 years old, Marian Cagnacci; niece, Debbie Kapser; nephew, Greg Gagnon. She will be missed by many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews.

Services for Betty will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, December 5th at the McCrery & Harra Funeral Home (3710 Kirkwood Hwy., Wilmington, DE 19808). Friends may call beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment at All Saints Cemetery will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Faithful Friends Animal Society.
