Jonathan Robert Bruce, 73, was reunited with his beloved wife, Donna, in Heaven on November 24th, 2024. Born on January 30, 1951 in Bryan, Texas, Jon was the son of the late Lucille Nehls Bruce and Robert Bruce. His father was stationed at College Station with the Army at the time. As an Army “brat”, Jon lived in several states, and even spent a year in Germany. The family also visited Holland (Jon’s favorite - the cheeses!) and Denmark (where he discovered open-face sandwiches!).
Jon graduated from Alexis I. duPont High School and attended the University of Delaware, before pursuing a career in the construction industry. He retired as a Project Manager, specializing in residential housing.
Jon and Donna shared a deep love for gardening and cherished the times they spent at the Outer Banks with their dogs. One of their most memorable experiences was traveling to Australia with Donna’s mother, Beryl, to connect with family there. Jon was an avid reader, particularly drawn to histories, biographies, and cookbooks. He also had a passion for woodworking and cooking.
Jon was preceded in death by his parents, Lucille and Robert Bruce, his wife, Donna, his in-laws, Beryl and David Camack, and his brother-in-law, Dave Camack. He is survived by his sister, Deborah Bruce, as well as his cousins-in-law from Australia, particularly Katrina, Ky, John, and Kate. He is also survived by many dear friends who will miss him deeply.
A graveside service will be held at Gracelawn Memorial Park in New Castle, DE at 10:30 AM on Monday, Dec. 9th.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to a charity of your choice in Jon’s name.
