Ruth Ann Stovicek

June 23, 1932 - December 9, 2024

Ruth Ann (Grauley) Stovicek, of Wilmington, Delaware, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on December 9th, 2024.

Ruth Ann was born in Claymont, Delaware and grew up in the historic Worth Steel community, Worthland. She graduated from Claymont High School in 1950, and went on to attend University of Delaware, finishing her degree in 1981.

A lifelong musician, Ruth Ann was Music Director at Bethel Baptist Church for more than 30 years, leading the choir and planning multiple services per week. Later, she went on to assist the music ministry at Brandywine Valley Church for many years, planning some services, playing piano, and directing the bell choir. The last service she planned was held December 1st, and she last directed the bell choir less than a week before entering the hospital.

A sought after piano accompanist, Ruth Ann loved to support the community through music, performing at nursing homes, schools, churches, correctional facilities, as well as with local groups like ArdenSingers and the Brandywine Pops Orchestra. She also had the opportunity to travel abroad with the Mary Green Chorale, singing in churches and cathedrals across Europe. In her free time, Ruth Ann was a Phillies fan for over ninety years. She last attended a game in June for her 92nd birthday. She also always looked forward to her yearly vacation at Bethany Beach, and loved spending time with family. She loved all of her grandchildren, and was devastated by the tragic loss of her oldest grandson, Matthew.

Blessed with a long life and good health until she was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer three and a half years ago, Ruth Ann spent every moment up until her passing enjoying all the beauty the world had to offer.

She is survived by her daughter Nancy Golczewski (Greg) and son John, as well as her grandchildren, Lindsey Gamble (Chad), Daniel, Emma, Lauren, and Sarah. She was predeceased by her husband Kenneth James Stovicek, brother Dr. John Grauley, grandson Matthew Golczewski, and daughter-in-law Suzanne Winge.

Ruth Ann’s memorial service will be held on Wednesday the 18th of December at Brandywine Valley Church, 7 Mt. Lebanon Road, Wilmington, DE 19803 with visitation starting at 10:30am, followed by the service at 11:30am.
